Dick Schultz - Charter Class

Dick Schultz, Class of 1964, was born to Hank and Iona Schultz in Rathdrum, Idaho, and was the youngest of 7 children.  His siblings are Ellen, Rita, Delores, Bob, Duane and Diane.

Dick attended Lakeland High School from 1960 to 1964, and participated in football, basketball, baseball and track – lettering in all 4 sports throughout his last 3 years of high school.  He was selected Lakeland High School’s All-around athlete in 1964, selected to the All-state basketball and baseball teams, and qualified for state in the high jump.

He attended North Idaho Junior College (now North Idaho College) from 1964 through 1966 where he lettered in basketball, baseball and track.  In 1966, he was chosen captain of the basketball team, was awarded the Booster Club Outstanding Player award, was selected First Team All-district, and Co-captain All-region team.  (Team record of 26-2-1)

Dick attended Washington State University from 1966 to 1969, and earned 2 letters in basketball,  1 letter in football, and was second in tackles and interceptions on the football team.

After college, Dick married his high school sweetheart, Rhonda Hegge, and was blessed with two children, Michelle and Jeff.  He taught and coached for 35 years – 34 at East Valley High School in Spokane, and 1 year at Lakeland High School.

He also coached many AAU basketball teams and enjoyed fishing, hunting, water skiing, snow skiing, shooting trap and skeet, and playing baseball.

Dick and his wife are now retired and enjoy spending time with their grandchildren, traveling and golfing.
