Dana (Antonelli) Stiegemeier - Charter Class
(Antonelli) Stiegemeier, Class of 1974, was born to Diane and Stanley Antonelli in Santa Cruz, California. She is the youngest of 4 children - 2 sisters, Dawn Antonelli and Deren Eastman (husband Andy), and one brother Derek (wife Connie).
Dana participated in volleyball, basketball, field hockey and gymnastics at Lakeland High School from 1970 - 1974, she received a scholarship for volleyball and basketball from North Idaho College (1975 - 1976), and a scholarship to play volleyball for the University of Idaho (1977).
Her athletic achievements include 36 rebounds in one game versus LCSC while at North Idaho College, served all 15 points in one college game for the win (the games only went to 15 with no rally scoring at that time), and started all games in both volleyball and in basketball at NIC and U of I, except for one time at U of I when she was hurt.
Since college, Dana has continued to be active in sports. She is a member of the Wild Game Over 55 volleyball team. They played in the National U.S. Volleyball Tournament a few years ago. She has also played in national softball tournaments (both 45 and over and open brackets). She played on the 1st women’s team to go to Nationals back in 1976. Dana still participates in recreation league volleyball and softball, and just learned to downhill ski last winter.
Dana’s dad, Stanley, her Lakeland P.E. teacher and coach, Alice Deaver, and her University of Idaho coach, Amanda Gammage have all been instrumental in encouraging and inspiring Dana to excel in sports.
Dana is a member of the North Idaho Quilters and Needle Nuts organization, a former volunteer with Lakeland Soccer Club and Lakeland Wrestling Club, and a member of Post Falls Education Association and Idaho Education Association.
She recently retired from Post Falls School District where she taught for 34 years at Ponderosa Elementary. She received multiple “Teacher of the Year” and “Teacher of the Month” awards. Her husband, Darryl (recent Lakeland retiree) and Dana have 3 children, Dylan, Ph.D. student at Idaho State, Austin, adjunct professor of art at NIC and EWU, and Kayla, Lakeland elementary teacher. Dana looks forward to traveling, quilting, and staying active.
