Heather McIntosh Lang - Class of 2015
Heather McIntosh Lang , Class of 1986, was born to Dennis and Kathie McIntosh of Rathdrum, Idaho. She has one older brother, Shawn.
Heather attended Lakeland High School from 1983-1986. She was a three year starter on the varsity volleyball and basketball teams, and lettered 3 years in track. After graduation, she attended Lewis Clark State College where she majored in Natural Science Secondary Education and minored in Physical Education and was a member of the Warrior volleyball and basketball teams, as well as a short stint on the tennis team.
Her athletic achievements at Lakeland were: 2-time All Conference Volleyball team (’85 and ’86); 2-time Regional Champion in discus (’85 and ’86); State track qualifier in 880 relay (’84 - 6th place), 400 relay (’85 - 2nd place), and discus (’85 and ’86 - 5th place); 3-time All Conference Basketball team; played in two state basketball tournaments (’84 and ’86); 2nd place finish at state basketball tournament (’86 - highest finish of any girls athletic team at that time); Team MVP (’85 and ’86); Lakeland Boosters’ Female Athlete of the Year (’86); All State Basketball Tournament Team (’86); Idaho State All-Star Girls Basketball Team (’86); First Annual District 1 All-Star Basketball Team (’86); North Idaho Female Basketball Player of the Year (’86); All North Idaho Girls Basketball Team (’86); Boise Statesman All State Basketball Team (’86); USA Today All American Girls Basketball Team Honorable Mention (’86).
After graduating from Lakeland, Heather attended LCSC where she played both volleyball and basketball her freshman and sophomore years (86-88), continued with volleyball the next two years (88-90), and then played basketball again her fifth year of college (90-91). In the summer between her freshman and sophomore year, she played on an 18-and-under softball team which qualified and participated in the World USSSA Championship in Kansas. In 1989, while taking a tennis class at LC, she was asked to play on the newly formed tennis team. She played in three collegiate tennis matches before deciding an academic focus and a break in college athletics was needed. She was the student assistant coach for the LC volleyball team in 1990.
Collegiate athletic achievements were: starter all three years in basketball; basketball team captain (’90); starter all four years in volleyball; volleyball team captain (’89); Ranked 19th in nation for NAIA women’s volleyball for assists as a freshman (’86); Warrior Invitational Volleyball Tournament Team (’87); 2-time NAIA District 1 Champions (’88-first title in school’s history and ’89); 2-time NAIA National Tournament qualifier (’88-first time in school’s history and ’89); Colonel Classic Volleyball Tournament MVP (’89); NAIA District 1 All Tournament Volleyball Team (’89); NAIA District 1 Volleyball Tournament MVP (’89); NAIA District 1 All-Star Volleyball Team (’89).
After graduating from college, Heather taught 8th grade science and received her MA in Educational Administration. She has worked in the Clarkston School District for 23 years, with 18 years being in administration both at the building level and, currently, in central office. Throughout the years, Heather has coached volleyball and boys and girls basketball mainly at the club and junior high levels. She coached her daughter’s 14U club volleyball team to the National Tournament in 2010.
Heather has been married to her husband, Jon, for 22 years and has three children: Madison, 19, Cutler, 15, and Kash, 12. She enjoys snowboarding, biking, camping , traveling, following her children’s activities, and stays competitively active playing softball both in women’s league and coed with her husband. She continues to participate in Bloomsday, pushing her mom in her wheelchair, and has participated in several Hoopfest tournaments, as well as running and/or bike races over the years. She has a goal to someday earn a gold medal in the Senior Olympic Games in whatever event she can still do.
