LEWISTON — Ben Zubaly scored a team-high 20 points, and Josiah Haaland added 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Hawks in a nonleague loss to the Bengals at Booth Hall.

“I thought the guys played extremely hard defensively,” Lakeland assistant coach Tom Neilson said. “We got behind in the third quarter, but fought hard to get back into it. Both Ben and Jeret (Taylor) were great defensively, but we just came up a little short down the stretch.”

Taylor and Cole Strietzel scored 15 points each for Lakeland (6-10), which hosts Timberlake next Saturday.

Donaven Santana scored 30 points for Lewiston (7-11), which won by three points at Lakeland on Jan. 3.

“They were looking to get him the ball tonight,” Neilson said of Santana. “They win or lose with him playing well, and he played well tonight.”
