"ST. MARIES — Taylor Elpers scored nine of her 12 points in the fourth quarter as the Hawks rallied past the Lumberjacks in a nonleague game.
St. Maries led 25-15 at halftime before Lakeland outscored the Lumberjacks 40-28 in the second half.
“To scratch out a win after trailing by 10 at the half, I was proud of the girls’ resolve,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. “It was nice to see.”
Katy Ryan scored 15 points — all in the second half — and Melody Loutzenhiser scored 14 points for Lakeland (1-1), which competes in the Border Clash tournament against East Valley at West Valley High next Friday at 3:30 p.m.
Shelby Holder had 17 points and two steals, Madison Cordell 14 points, six assists and two steals for St. Maries (0-3), which travels to Priest River on Tuesday.
