MOSCOW — Sophomore post Katy Ryan had a triple double with 11 points, 16 rebounds and 11 blocked shots, and the Lakeland Hawks won in Moscow for the first time since 2011, beating the Bears 37-20 on Thursday night at Bear Den to clinch at least a tie for the 4A Inland Empire League title.

“It was a great win,” said Lakeland coach Steve Seymour, whose team blanked Moscow in the first quarter. “It wasn’t the most artistic win. It was a great start defensively. What a half, especially that first quarter.”

Lakeland (8-10, 3-0 4A IEL) last won in Moscow during the 4A Region 1 tournament eight seasons ago. Before that, Lakeland’s last regular-season win at Moscow came in 2009, when the Hawks were a 4A independent. Lakeland’s last league victory in Moscow came in 2008, when the IEL was a combined 5A/4A league.

Taylor Elpers added seven points, eight rebounds and three steals for Lakeland, and Lauryn Cooper had four assists.

Megan Jung, who scored 16 points for Moscow (6-13, 0-3) in the Bears’ 55-45 loss at Lakeland two weeks ago, did not score on Thursday night.

“It was a team effort — just more of an awareness of where she was,” Seymour said. “She got shots off, we just tried to make them difficult shots.”

Lakeland can wrap up the league title and the No. 1 seed to regionals when it visits Sandpoint on Tuesday in the Hawks’ league and regular-season finale.
