"RATHDRUM — Jalen Skalskiy totaled 23 points and six rebounds and Lakeland jumped all over Sandpoint early en route to a 66-43 victory in 4A Inland Empire League play Friday night at Hawk Court.

Skalskiy scored seven of his points in the first quarter, Ben Zubaly six of his eight, Jaret Taylor all six of his points and Josiah Haaland four of his 14 for Lakeland (6-8, 1-1 4A IEL), which led 27-9 after one quarter.

“Josiah and Jaret really played solid and got us off to a hot start in the first quarter,” Lakeland assistant coach Tyrel Derrick said. “Ben Zubaly attacked their pressure, getting into the paint and drawing contact. Jalen did a great job attacking the boards and giving us a scoring presence.”

Alex Stockton led Sandpoint (6-7, 0-2) with 22 points.

Lakeland returns to action Jan. 29 at Moscow.
