RATHDRUM — Mel Loutzenhiser scored 13 points and the Hawks hung tough with the Bengals before falling in nonleague play at Hawk Court.

Alaina Pruitt stepped into the starting lineup and added six points and 10 rebounds for Lakeland (5-8). Katy Ryan had eight points and eight rebounds. Lauryn Cooper had five assists.

“I was pleased with much of what we did tonight,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. “Mel had a nice game offensively (despite missing a chunk of the second quarter after taking a Lewiston pass off the nose). I thought we handled pressure better tonight.”

Kendyll Kinzer of Lewiston, who has signed with Fresno State, led all scorers with 27 points. Caitlin Richardson added 15 points for the Bengals.

“She did a realy good job of being opportunistic and crashing the glass,” Seymour said, “and had some putbacks when there wasn’t a body put on her.”

Lakeland plays host to Lake City on Saturday.
